Lumen Circles is an educational institute for civic activists and civil society. Its main work is to strengthen activists and grassroots initiatives by offering circles of learning, one-to-one exchange, and spaces for reflection, conversation and working together. Rather than stepping into social issues directly, Lumen helps people and groups build knowledge and skills and strengthen their ethical footing, so that they can work well for positive social change in their own settings.
Our circles of learning are on activism, holistic security and care. They are designed around what activists actually need, and they are not only a transfer of technical knowledge: they aim to grow analytical insight, practical skill and the ability to work together.
Lumen has not drawn its future as a straight, fixed line. It expects its path to emerge from the lived experience of the people who take part, old and new, and from a network that grows over time. Recording what we learn, giving shape to experience, and turning it into learning material is a natural part of that path.
Lumen rests on learning together, working across fields, a holistic view and shared creativity, and on the belief that lasting strength in civil society grows out of trust, shared experience and the gradual growth of what people can do.
